Day car insurance
Yes, it really is possible to insure a car for just one single day. Not only that, the process is quick and easy, and it is something that can be done online at any time of day or night, 52 weeks a year. If only all of life was so simple!
You will need your driving licence details, as well as the registration number of the car that you wish to insure. If you do not have either of these you can still get a quotation, but not proceed to actually book a policy.
Once you have got your quote and decided to go ahead you can pay online by credit or debit card and then you are sent an e-mail detailing all the documentation including the all important policy documents. It is advisable that you print these out and keep them with you whilst you are driving the car. The reason for this is that the documents will be the only proof you will have that the vehicle is insured; if you are stopped by the police for any reason they are likely to check the MID (Motor Insurers Database) for the vehicle's insurance details as a matter of routine. Unless you have pre-booked and paid for the policy some days earlier the details would not be on the database and if you were unable to convince the officer that you had in fact insured it he or she would be perfectly within rights to confiscate the vehicle on the spot and have it taken away to a police pound. These are complications which we can all do well without so please ensure that you have the documentation with you in the vehicle during the day on which it is insured.
